IsCham together with Tsinghua x-lab welcome you to join an event on Innovation and startups in China. We invite Young Professionals who are curious about the Chinese startup scene and China's market to participate in an ideas exchange seminar and a discussion of the challenges facing startups in China (both Chinese and foreign) and how startups should use IP as a business tool. Our experts will share their knowledge of the Chinese startup ecosystem and discuss the connection between tech, business and intellectual property.

This seminar is an excellent opportunity to understand China's innovation and startup scene better and to receive some insightful observations about China's tech and innovation market.

    Tal Badt

    Director of Business Development for Tsinghua x-lab

    Tal Badt serves as the Director of Business Development for Tsinghua x-lab, Tsinghua university’s incubator and innovation platform, recognized as the top university incubator in the country. Tal joined x-lab from its inception in 2013 and is part of the core team to take it off the ground. In 5 years the platform has grown exponentially with over 1,245 startups across sectors, 517companies, 160 raising +414 million USD in seed, A, B, and C rounds.
    In heading international business development efforts Tal establishes strategic partnerships across the world, cultivates and manages stakeholder relationships (investors, corporations, university leaders, accelerators and incubators), designs and launches new programs and collaboration initiatives, leads negotiations and raises sponsorships and investments.
    A licensed IP attorney, Tal also got her MBA from the MIT Sloane-Tsinghua program, and consults startups on strategy and IP issues on a weekly basis. She’s passionate about harnessing hard core tech innovation to solve some of our deep set problems, and has been residing in China for the past 7 years.

    Ziv Rotenberg is an innovation and business strategist and IP expert specializing in innovation strategies, IP aspects of business strategies and transactions, IP protection and integration of IP and business. He is the founder of Group8 Consultants, an IP and innovation strategy consultancy. Ziv works with tech companies, startups, investors, universities and research institutions on building IP portfolios, strategies and innovation infrastructures that drive the creation of valuable strategic assets and their use to drive business, achieve strategic goals, create opportunities and lower risks. He also advises companies entering China or doing business in China or with Chinese companies and investors on IP aspects of strategic transactions (including investment agreements, M&As, JVs and other collaborations).
    Ziv has been living and working in Beijing, China’s capital, for the past 7 years. Prior to coming to China he worked as a lawyer at two of Israel’s leading IP law firms and represented multinational corporations and Israeli companies in various complex IP matters, IP disputes and transactions. Since moving to China Ziv managed the China operations for Israel’s leading IP firm for 4 years, after which he opened his own consultancy. He is also currently completing his PhD in international law at China University of Political Science and Law.
    Ziv is highly involved in the startup ecosystem in China and mentors startups at Tsinghua University x-lab and at Chinaccelerator and MOX accelerators. He is often invited to talk at various forums on business, innovation and IP and teaches students in business programs on innovation and IP business strategies. Ziv is involved several academic circles in China and works to increase awareness among investors and companies to the significance of IP as a driving force for innovation and as a strategic tool for obtaining growth, scale-up and for reaching strategic business goals. He is the author for several articles on IP and strategy in China (his articles have been published, among others, in IAM Magazine and China IP Magazine)
